‘Partakers’ is an inexact translation of κοινωνοί. We should stick to the idea of fellowship lest we claim for ourselves something that is foreign to Christianity. This ‘divine nature’ is not God’s substance but his quality. Righteousness and holiness are derived from God, making us share the divine nature, but these things do not deify us [Lns]. It means to become righteous like God is righteous [SSA]. It involves being given immortality and incorruptibility and sharing God’s life and nature [TH].
